How can you make Doctor Who even more awesome? Add one of these following characters as a Companion! Epic squee!
Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter
Sure, she might wander off in the middle of an episode in search of Nargles, but this is Doctor Who — the Nargles might actually exist. The Doctor’s type is dreamy girls who will call them on their bullshit, and Luna is certainly that. She just might do it in pig latin or something.
Cher from Clueless
The first thing Cher would do upon entering the TARDIS would be to completely redecorate it. The second would obviously be to force the Doctor to take her shopping on all the coolest planets. The third would be to sit the Doctor down for some serious therapy seshes to deal with those big bad capital-I Issues that dude’s got in his past. Then she’d probably organize a wedding on 25th Century Mars or something while simultaneously finding her true self and accidentally becoming queen of the universe.
Ron Weasley from Harry Potter
Not only would this give the Doctor another ginger companion to seethe with jealousy over, but if Ron ditched Harry and Hermione (only for a little while and not at all in a way sad like in the books, I promise!) to galavant with the Doctor, it might be a nice little self-esteem boost for ol’ won-won. Sure, he’d probably have a bit of an inferiority complex when it came to the awe-inspiring nature of the Doctor, but maybe we’d get an episode where he learned some of the Doctor’s deep dark secrets and inner loneliness and realizes maybe being the sidekick and not the capital-H hero is the best role after all.
Mako Mori from Pacific Rim
The Doctor would be won over by Mako’s mix of badassery and adorableness literally immediately, and he’d whisk her away seconds after that. He’d have to compete with Raleigh, though, who would stay home for a few episodes to finish construction on the Mako shrine he’s got going in his closet and glaring in the general direction of the dude who’s occupying Mako’s time, but he’d join eventually and they’d get to fight even more over who Mako loves more.
Bella Swan from Twilight
Yes, I know what you’re thinking: “NO! OH GOD WHY! OH GOD MAKE IT STOP.” But hear me out: Bella Swan doesn’t have to be as notoriously boring as she is. She’s extremely obvious about being the type of girl to literally abandon her entire life/family/friends the second she meets an even remotely interesting boy, so what if she met the Doctor first? They could have adventures and Bella could learn some secrets of the universe and save some people and generally learn the value of committing acts of kindness and not getting married right out of high school!
April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation
This would start out as a nightmare because April would undoubtedly make about 500 jokes about planning to murder everyone on whatever planet they’re saving. But April would probably do better with aliens than with people, and her soft side would shine through by day three and the Doctor would love her and everything would be beautiful.
Olivia Pope from Scandal
Olivia is mainly on this list because girl needs to get away from her life. Why stay in a place where your married lover is the president of the United States and everyone around you has murdered like at least one person and once someone on your show got stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors? Go run away with a Manic Pixie Dream Doctor, Olivia. You’re a professional fixer, after all, you’d probably be damn good at saving the universe.
Dean Winchester from Supernatural
This is another one that just needs to get out of his current world. Boy you have died too many times, it is time to run away to other times and dimensions and hang out with another person who seems to defy death. You can bond over all your friends being dead and being alone in the universe and hug and eat pie and I can sit at home watching it crying into my cool ranch Doritos.
Stiles Stilinski from Teen Wolf
I have always held it as a universal truth that Stiles Stilinski is what would happen if Pacey Witter and Seth Cohen could reproduce. This means he is hella damn attractive and generally awesome but also kind of broody, and I feel like the Doctor would connect to that. Stiles is also a gigantic spaz of the first degree, so while he’d be really good at the whole empathy thing he’d probably also get himself kidnapped every once in a while and/or almost fall out of the TARDIS, which would make for some entertainment.
Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye
God, this would be a nightmare, wouldn’t it? The Doctor would spend approximately a week trying to convince Holden that no, not everyone on these planets is a phony, they genuinely are just aliens. After a while Holden would ditch it all to go to some mysterious place too real for the rest of us, but the Doctor would find a way to keep his red hunting hat (hunting hats are cool).
