Comic-Con Road Trip Songs!

LAUREN’S WEENIE SONG LIST:  “It’s kinda lame!”

“Kiss From a Rose,” Seal
The movie blew.  You can get it for $4.99 on Amazon.  But the soundtrack is badass.  When you’re cruising in a car with your best geek pals, every single one of you will point your fingers Aguilera-style to the sky at the key change.  And attempt to harmonize.

“Superman,” Five for Fighting
This song mellows me out any time I tune into an adult easy listening station.  It’s the sad, sad tale of Kal El’s lonely existence on Earth, though the logic of the digging for kryptonite line is irksome to a nerd who knows anything about Superman.  I think I’ll replace it with Kryptonite by Three Doors Down.  Same thing.  Just … louder.

“Glory of Love,” Peter Cetera
Nothing says romance like your man beating the shit out of a guy who just beat the shit out of you.  Peter Cetera’s creepy falsetto makes for wonderful car listening.  If everyone in the car is not playing air drums to this song, there is something wrong with you all.

“Ninja Rap,” Vanilla Ice
This song was a nerd youth anthem.  It married a hip, young artist to a brand that so many boys (and obviously girls) loved and cherished.  It’s also cool to try to rap things while going 75 mph and eating Cheetos for lunch.  Fave Turtle = Michelangelo.

“Weird Science,” Oingo Boingo
I do not know why I love this song so much.  Perhaps, it’s the manic energy Oingo Boingo creates with their strange rhythms and speak-singing.  It also inspires awesome robot moves that everyone can enjoy.

BAILEE’S QUEENIE SONG LIST:  “What?  I like Freddie Mercury.”

“Bohemian Rhapsody,” Queen
A car full of people can (and will) sing the shiz out of this song!!!  Queen made it awesome, Wayne’s World made it awesomer.  I love Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” but this one wins by a mile in terms of “Everyone stop what they’re doing and sing this fucking song!”-osity.  Road trip staple.

“Flash (Gordon) Theme,” Queen
AAAAaahhhhh!  Even the most rhythmically challenged of drummers can keep time with the thud thud thud thud thud thud of this classictastic classic.  To quote the weird ending to the music video, “Flash, I love you … We only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!”

“Hammer to Fall,” Queen
I always think of Thor when I hear this song!  How can you not?  He.  Literally.  Has.  A.  Hammer.  And he’ll bring it down upon thee, yea verily, or some such Asgard speak!  Wingy hats, hammers, and thunder!

“Don’t Stop Me Now,” Queen
Shaun of the Dead!  If you should ever want to smack a zombie with a pool cue to the sweet sounds of rocket boosting rock n’ roll anthem, this is your jam.  Just try bludgeoning the undead to “Kiss From a Rose,” Lauren.  (Say what you will about Batman & Robin, I lurve me a Val Kilmer.)

“Princes of the Universe,” Freddie Mercury
You guys!  This was in the soundtrack to the Highlander movie and it’s the theme for Highlander: The Series (starring be-ponytailed immortal hunk, Adrian Paul).  Win.  BUT if you fudge consonants a tad, you can make it sound like “Princess of the Universe,” in which case you have your very own femme geek anthem to roll on your Certain Dri to.  What?  I’m a nerd.  I get sweaty.
