Synopsis
Synopsis: I HATE L.A. follows aspiring actress Nora, who just landed in L.A. and is already fostering a love/hate relationship with the city. Though she tries to convince her long-distance boyfriend Matt to relocate via video diaries, Nora develops complicated feelings for her charming but obsessive-compulsive friend Oliver. Ultimately, it's Oliver and her wild, noncommittal neighbor Rain that ground Nora in the land of big dreams and empty pockets.
Characters
NORANora's a fresh LA import with bright eyes, a big heart, and even bigger dreams of becoming a successful actress. Nora was a big fish in a tiny pond in Florida. But in this city, it's more about who you know -- and Nora doesn't know anyone yet. Well, except for her new neighbors Rain and Oliver, who provide the support she's missing from her long-distance boyfriend Matt. He's supposed to move out with Nora after she gets settled. Any day now, right? But Nora's got a lot of pluck, and this girl is ready to roll up her sleeves and dig deep to make her Hollywood dreams come true.
RAIN
Rain is a hippie-vegan-lesbian who latches onto every popular eco-friendly trend she comes across. She works at a coffee shop to support her bohemian lifestyle, and contemporary art ambitions. The problem is, right now they're only concepts, in her head. Her loud, impulsive, excessively outgoing personality sometimes tries Nora's patience, but in the end, they help ground each other in the heartless world of LA.
OLIVER
Oliver has lived in LA for a number of years, but is still loyal to his hometown, Chicago. Oliver went to LMU to study cinematography, and now works on set as a gaffer to pay the rent. He's loaded with Midwest chivalry and is always there to lend a hand, especially for Nora. Oliver is organized and clean to the point of obsession. His run-down car is spotless, his fridge is alphabetized, and he cringes at the site of chewed gum. But he tempers his OCD impulses around Nora and lets her (sometimes) eat in his car.
MATT
Nora met Matt when she was in college and he was starting his career running a local restaurant. He's into fantasy football, poker nights, and his WRX. He's the kind of guy that does just enough to keep Nora happy. Gives her flowers when she's upset, takes her out to dinner once a week, and sometimes shows up for her theatrical performances. After two years together, Nora decided she wanted to move to LA. Matt let her go thinking she would quickly give up and come back home, because really, who wants to live in LA?
SCARLET
Scarlet is Oliver's ex-girlfriend, who's been chasing the acting dream since she was a little girl. Her parents stuck her in acting classes while she was still in diapers, and took her to every audition possible. She's done modeling classes, dance classes, voice training, choir, everything a good little actress should do -- but the biggest gig she's ever booked is Party Girl #3 in a national commercial. Scarlet and Oliver met on set while Scarlet was doing some background work. Oliver, ever hopeful, dated her because she showed interest, but that was a short-lived, unfortunate decision.
